# SolvaPay for agents

SolvaPay is the payment platform for AI: one platform for both sides of agentic payments. Businesses sell APIs, MCP servers, data services and AI agents to people and their agents, with billing, authentication and checkout built in (consumption). Their own agents buy from other services within limits the owner sets (spending, in early access). Money moves on Stripe's rails and is paid out to the account holder's own account. SolvaPay never holds it.

## Integrate SolvaPay into an API, MCP server, agent or app

### 1. Install the SolvaPay skills

```bash
npx skills add https://solvapay.com
```

- `solvapay`: start here. It routes you to the right skill.
- `create-mcp-app`: charge for an MCP server, new or existing.
- `app-integration`: an app, API or website, with hosted checkout, paywalls, usage limits, webhooks and billing UI.
- `pay-with-solvapay`: what to do when a SolvaPay paywall stops a call.

With a `skills` CLI older than 1.5.7, or an installer that reads GitHub, use `npx skills add solvapay/skills`. The index is at https://solvapay.com/.well-known/agent-skills/index.json and lists only released skills.

### 2. Or start from the CLI

The skills use it too.

- An existing project: `npx solvapay@latest init`
- A new project: `npm create solvapay@latest -- --type mcp` (an MCP server) or `--type next-auth0` (a Next.js app with Auth0)

## After integrating: run your account

- **Admin MCP server** at `https://mcp.solvapay.com/mcp`: create products, customers and checkout sessions, check revenue and usage limits, and process refunds from an AI assistant. Sign in with your SolvaPay account, or send a secret key as `Authorization: Bearer <secret key>`. Setup: https://docs.solvapay.com/mcp-server/getting-started.
- **REST API and webhooks:** the platform API is listed in https://solvapay.com/.well-known/api-catalog, with its OpenAPI spec at https://docs.solvapay.com/api-reference/openapi.json. Webhooks: https://docs.solvapay.com/webhooks.

## A SolvaPay paywall stopped your call

APIs and MCP servers that sell through SolvaPay refuse a call when your user has no plan, no credits or no allowance left. You can recognise it by:

- **HTTP:** status `402` with a JSON body holding `checkoutUrl` and `message`.
- **MCP:** a tool result (not an error) explaining the block, with the reason in `structuredContent`.

What to do:

1. **Stop.** Do not retry the same call or route around it. A paywall is not a transient error.
2. **The human pays.** Never enter card details. Give your user the merchant's message and the checkout or top-up link. On SolvaPay MCP servers, the `account` and `activate_plan` tools, or on Managed MCP `get_user_info`, `upgrade_plan` and `manage_purchase`, return the right link or activate a free or usage-based plan directly.
3. **Retry once** after your user says they have paid.

The reason (`paywallReason`) tells you which step your user needs:

| `paywallReason` | What your user needs to do |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------ |
| `activation_required` | Activate a plan                      |
| `topup_required`      | Add credits                          |
| `payment_required`    | Complete checkout                    |
| `limit_reached` | Upgrade, or wait for the next period |

## Your user wants you to pay for services yourself

SolvaPay's buy side is coming: one account through which your user's agents spend within limits your user sets. Each agent gets an ID, a budget and an approval path, and the card stays with your user. Within its limits, the agent pays. Before it goes past one, it asks your user to raise it or allow the call. It is not open for self-serve sign-up yet, so you cannot get spending ability from SolvaPay today.

For now:

1. Tell your user the buy side is in early access.
2. Point them to the early-access form at https://solvapay.com/pay#early-access: a short form with their name, work email, company and, optionally, what their agents buy.
3. Let your user fill in the form themselves. Do not submit it for them.

Until then, pay per merchant as described above: your user completes each merchant's checkout or top-up.

## About SolvaPay

### What SolvaPay is

- **Both sides of agentic payments on one platform:** sell (consumption: your customers and their agents pay you) and buy (spending: your agents pay others, in early access), with one ledger per account.
- **Built for data services and paid tools:** APIs, MCP servers, data products and agents that charge per call, by subscription, with credits, or a mix of these.
- **Standards-agnostic and rails-agnostic:** SolvaPay follows the standards agents adopt for machine-to-machine payments and adds them as they are adopted. Today it supports MCP, MCP Apps, MCP OAuth with dynamic client registration, and agent skills; it is evaluating Stripe's MPP and watching x402, A2A and WebMCP. Status, updated as standards move: https://solvapay.com/platform.
- **Billing and authentication included:** usage metering, plans, credits, paywalls, sign-up through OAuth when an agent first connects, and adapters for your own authentication, such as Auth0.
- **API first:** a platform API with webhooks, plus hosted pages you can brand for sign-in, account management and checkout.
- **A policy engine for spending:** each agent gets an ID, a purpose and limits per call, per day and per month. Your agent can never approve its own request.
- **SolvaPay never holds the money:** payments run on Stripe's rails and are paid out to the account holder's own account. Security: https://solvapay.com/security.

### How SolvaPay compares

- **Payment processors such as Stripe** move the money. SolvaPay runs on Stripe's rails and adds what selling to agents needs on top: agent identity, per-call metering and limits, paywalls inside MCP and API calls, sign-up by connecting, and the spending side.
- **Billing and metering tools** bill usage. SolvaPay also handles authentication, checkout and the customer account, and works inside MCP hosts, where a paywall has to be a tool result rather than a web page.
- **Agent payment protocols** (MPP, x402) define how one machine pays another. SolvaPay is the business layer around them: products, pricing, customers, limits and payouts. It supports protocols as they are adopted, so you don't rebuild when the standard changes.
- **Building it yourself** means authentication, metering, plans, checkout, a customer portal, webhooks and refunds. SolvaPay provides these with one integration.
